Cookie policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

This policy explains how Nestor uses cookies and similar technologies on find.nestor.org.uk and www.nestor.org.uk, and how you can control them. It should be read with our Privacy policy.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let the site remember things between pages and visits. Similar technologies include local storage (information kept by your browser for a site), pixels (tiny images that record that a page was viewed) and scripts provided by third parties. We call all of these "cookies" in this policy.

Cookies set by us are "first-party" cookies. Cookies set by other companies through our site, for example Google, are "third-party" cookies.

2. Your choices

Nothing non-essential is set when the page loads. When you start your search (by answering the first question or pressing a button to start), you accept the cookies described below, as stated in the footer of every page. You can refuse or change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, where you can accept all, refuse all or choose by category, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

If you refuse non-essential cookies, the site still works and you can still make a request. We will only measure visits in an anonymous, aggregated way that uses no cookies.

3. The cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These are needed for the site to work and to keep it secure. They do not require consent.

Analytics

These help us understand how the site is used (which pages are visited, where visitors drop out, which towns are searched) so we can improve it. With your consent, the data is linked to a random identifier. Without consent, we still receive anonymous counts that cannot identify you.

Advertising measurement

We advertise on Google and Microsoft (Bing) search. These cookies tell the advertising platform that a visit, or a care request, followed a click on one of our adverts, so we know which adverts work and are not charged for the wrong ones. They are also used to show you relevant adverts on those platforms. With your consent, when you submit a request we send Google a hashed (one-way encrypted) version of your email address or phone number so the request can be matched to the advert click; Google cannot read the original value.

4. Google Consent Mode

We use Google Consent Mode. Until you make a choice, or if you refuse, Google tags run in a limited mode: they set no advertising or analytics cookies and send only anonymous signals, which Google uses to estimate overall figures. Once you accept, the cookies above are set. You can read more on Google's help page.

5. Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of the site working, including the cookie banner remembering your choice.

6. Third-party privacy notices

7. Changes and contact

We update this list when we add or remove tools. The date at the top shows the last change. Questions: hello@nestor.org.uk.
